With heavy hitters usually headlining this achingly hip festival, this is sure to be one to add to your lust list. Previous headliners include Arctic Monkeys, Bjork, Radiohead, Arcade Fire – so this is the one for the cool kids to hang out! Plus it’s set up along Barcelona’s Parc del Forum which is on the glorious Spanish Coastline, so you can party on the beach all day before venturing into the cool Barca nightlife of bars and restaurants afterwards. This festival happens usually the last weekend of May.
Las Palmas de Grand Canaria:
With a different theme each year (this year’s being magic and fantastic creatures) which is decided by an online vote, this carnival basically takes over every corner of Gran Canaria! Enveloping the place in colour and celebration that last usually over two weeks – this makes for the perfect festival/holiday combo. With fabulous parades and ceremonies through January and February, it is one to add to your 2019 plans straight away.
If after something a little different and a lot more…squishy, then it’s time to head over to Valencia and check out La Tomatina! Yup, this is the infamous festival where thousands of people descend upon the town of Buñol and gather to…THROW TOMATOES AT EACH OTHER! Dubbed as the world biggest food fight, this has year on year become so popular it has now become a ticketed event. Happening at the end of August, there’s still time to get your ticket and perfect your throwing technique!
Festival Internacional de Bennicassim:
If you prefer your festival experience more lazy, chilled and beach-based, Bennicasim is totally up your sun recliner! With previous acts including Bastille, The Killers and Liam Gallagher, hazy days melts into hectic nights with the best rock, indie, alternative and electro has to offer.
