It’s official – old is the NEW new! If you are after some of the freshest looks, you might be best off giving the past a cheeky side eye. Vintage shopping is totally where its at if you are wanting to create one of a kind looks that remain totally timeless. But if the idea of riffling through the bowels of a vintage shop fills you with grim dread, it’s time to get over yo’self fillies. Rokit Clothing is where it’s at when it comes to premium vintage, that ironically doesn’t cost a premium! Click this way and discover what can be found – it’s time for some brand new vintage…
I have been a vintage vixen for about 10 years now and will never forget my first purchase. It was a pair of tan Bally riding boots that I picked up at the Brick Lane branch of Rokit Clothing. They were butter soft, barely worn and the best part? They cost £25. Yup, bargainista’s rejoice – we have an utter steal on our hands! And from that first shopping steal, I never looked back from shopping secondhand. Vintage clothes have a certain unmistakable charm about them. The cuts are usually classic, the quality of the material (especially in pieces from 50s-80s) is unrivalled, the sizing is proper and you are getting an original – not just in the fact that the piece is a one off, but actually FROM the time the style was popular, not a carbon copy of an era’s piece made by high street giants. When you shop vintage, you know you are rocking genuine 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s…and trust me, you can mix it in with your current wardrobe seamlessly.
That being said – not all vintage shops are the same. Rokit lovingly source their retro pieces and everything ranges from very good to exceptional condition and are carefully cleaned and cared for before they hit stores or online. So fear not – you will never fall victim to what I call “vintage musk” here, my fashionable friend. Buying something here is like buying something brand new…but with a bit more of an interesting history! So, when doing my latest vintage-based wardrobe top up on the Rokit Clothing website (which is super handy if you can’t get to store), I thought I would share my haul to showcase not only the quality, but how timeless vintage clothing is…and how affordable too!
Rokit Levi’s Recycled Denim Hotpant shorts – £20:
Taking classic Levi jeans and reworking them into the cutest of short shorts are one of the (many) reasons I love Rokit. Not only are the ridiculously affordable BUT Rokit’s recycled range gives clothes a new lease of life, which is kinder on the ol’ environment too. So you can get a guilt free fashion fix! I picked these as a wardrobe staple, maybe a bit misguided as we are heading into autumn but I can rock them in the coming months with leggings or thick blacks tights, paired with ankle boots right? Plus I think a couple of pieces from the rest of my haul look just too good not to pair up with them…
Dressed up or down – these shorts are a timeless and versatile addition to my wardrobe. All the look for a lot less than snagging brand new.
Rokit Kiss “Hot in the Shade” 1990 Collectable Tour Tee – £85:
Ok, you know how I said you can nab some utter bargains shopping vintage? Well, this particular piece is not that BUT it is a collectable, rare piece and if you are fan of band tees as much as me, you know that this Kiss tee is pretty darn special and I just had to have it!!! From the 1990 “Hot in the Shade” tour, this tee is basically in mint condition and is one that spawned a million copies. And as they say “An original is worth more than a copy”…and I do prefer an original. My style swings between rock chick chic, urban streetwear and boho babe (that’s an eclectic mix I know!), so this piece has fast become a staple in the few weeks I have had it! Perfect for relaxed days off, or as I prefer it on big nights out, I have been styling it up tucked into tight ripped knee leggings, patent leather ankle boots and a check flannel shirt tied round the waist. I have been known to throw a cheeky leather biker jacket over the top. I want to rock and roll allllll night and party every day in this outfit (yup, I just threw a Kiss song in there fillies)!
Rokit Short Sleeve Red Striped 80s Tee – £25:
You lucky ducks have already had a sneak peek of this naughty bit of nautical delight paired with the Levi’s cut-offs, but this 80s tee deserves its own feature. Made from an almost knitted feeling t-shirt material this is going to just last and last – no throwaway fashion piece here! Plus because of it’s denser quality, it is making a great seasonal transition piece. You can never go wrong with a striped tshirt – a couple should be the staple of any wardrobe. I’m loving the embroidered crest pocket detail for a touch of luxe too. I have been styling this with jeans and bombers for a relaxed vibe but it would also look just as fashionista tucked into paperbag top trews with killerwatt heels. Tres chic!
Rokit Purple Lakers 90s Adidas T-Shirt – £25:
Man, I am having a major 90s love in at the moment with retro basketball tees and yes, the original are the best! As a teenager, I was ALWAYS in basketball vests and tees and over 20 years later, I am not that different (is that worrying? I say…NAHHH!). I like to wear these not only in a pseudo ironic way to the gym, but also with uber ripped jeans and super fly retro trainers and frilly socks. Basketball chic is going centre court and beyond!
Rokit 90s “Sleep is for the Rich” Slogan Jumper – £20:
Of all my haul – this is the piece that I think is most likely to pass as something that I bought in the high street as it is so current! But nope, this is over 20 years old but looks as fresh as a daisy. Plus I thought the slogan was very fitting for me at the moment as I am running between London and Manchester, getting my sweeeet hustle on. Sleep most certainly IS for the rich, as I am super tired! This fits super neatly and sits almost cropped which I am totally feeling. I have been sporting this with everything from cute checked skirts to boyfriend jeans and those perma-fave ripped knee leggings. The perfect wardrobe addition to make a statement in!
Rokit Black Lakers 90s Basketball T-Shirt – £25:
Yes, this is ANOTHER basketball tee but this time I opted to go big and baggy- because ya know…go big or go home. I also loved the super neon on this – so bright it could burn your retinas out! And once again, this looks like I just picked this up off the rack yesterday as it is hardly worn. I will be pairing this with everything from wet look leggings to these uber ripped Mom jeans to nail the retro 90s baller look. Nothing but net!
