There is nothing quite like the taste of fresh food. Not only is it healthier on the whole, but the quality is usually a lot better and the ingredients don’t sound like a lab experiment! You can actually recognise and pronounce them…with the exception of quinoa that is! Feeding yourself the best but not compromising on taste is something we are trying to do more and more here at Fashion Du Jour LDN HQ as part of our “New Year. Fresh Start!” initiative (catch up with past posts here). And thanks to our new friends at The Living Food Kitchen and their range of yumminess – we might just have the healthy eating side of things nailed! Click this way and discover how you too can discover a fresher taste…you may never snack the same again…
Eating healthy CAN be a bit of a chore…endlessly reading labels, especially when you want to grab something healthy on the go. Plus there can be the issue of added sugars or a lack of taste from many processed “health foods” on the market. If you then factor in things like being a vegan, wanting gluten-free, dairy-free or soya-free choices…well, that’s a whole other minefield! As someone who is endeavoring to eat a whole lot better without a lot of fuss (read LAZY), I was excited to try what The Living Food Kitchen had on offer. As one of the country’s leading manufacturers of vegan, raw and plant-based snacks, breakfasts and drinks which are delivered straight to your door, I knew my health choices were in good hands…but would my taste buds be too? It was time to delve into my delivery (which arrived in its chilled box) with gusto and stock my fridge and cupboards with goodness galore accordingly!
I decided I would fit the foods into my daily routine for the week – for breakfasts, snacks, desserts, etc. They arrived just as I was starting to think about cutting my meat intake too, so the protein-filled Hummus (god bless the chickpea) was a bit of a lifesaver.
The first thing that I noticed about the products were their vivid colours. I mean look at the vibrancy of this Raw Hummus. Have you ever seen a Hummus look this? Bright yellow? Nope! They are usually a sea of beige and bland, so this was an utter treat for the eyes.
But this hummus isn’t just a looker. Oh no! It’s a knock out in the taste department too. I swear I have never tried a fresher and yummier hummus EVER! Packed with flavour thanks to a delicious mix of sprouted chickpeas, parsley, turmeric, coriander seed, garlic and herb salt, this hummus has an utterly moreish Indian flavour. In fact it was hard not to finish a tub once opened! Perfect with wholemeal pittas for dipping, your snack game will be changed forever. I could imagine this would also be awesome slathered onto chicken or fish. The Raw Beetroot Hummus and Pea and Mint Hummus are also ridiculously tasty fiends too. I enjoyed a huge dollop of the pea and mint a top my morning tomatoes on toast and the beetroot bad boy was uber heaven for dipping or piled onto a jacket potato.
I tend to be on the go a lot, running from one gig to another place of work, never really stopping – so I need quick things that are packed with goodness, not processed nonsense to keep me going AND keep me well. That’s where reaching for one of The Living Food Kitchen’s flapjacks such as its Coconut Flapjack a wee lifesaver. I tend to find a lot of snack bars are not very filling or they bloat me ridiculously – whereas this one, packed with gluten-free oats, delivered on taste and kept me going on the run. Another fab fix was their almond milk shakes, which gives you a yummy dairy-free smoothie on the go that is rammed with freshness and superfoods for a healthy boost. I was a particular fan of the Pineapple and Coconut Almond Milk Shake, which transported me to faraway shores en route to work. Bliss in a bottle!
The Living Food Kitchen’s little pots of love in the form of their desserts are not to be missed either. You might look at them and think “hey, they’re a bit small” but good things come in small packages. They are packed with mmmmmmm-ness and they are actually, upon experiencing, the RIGHT size! They are rich, so anything more would just be crrrrrrrrrazy! Plus watch the numbers with these, they are definitely a treat! My particular fave was the Chocolate Mousse which is so thickly dense you could stand a spoon in it and yummily laced with coconut. Another fave was the Raw Lemon Cheesecake, which is zingily zesty with tangy freshness too and it’s biscuit base is replaced with finely chopped almond, coconut and date crust. Which is not just delicious, but clever!
The Living Food Kitchen’s tagline is “Eat Nature – It’s Better for You” and I would most certainly agree! And with its products at reasonable prices and delivered fresh to your door, it is definitely something I would continue to do now that I have tasted the products. If you are looking to get yourself eating better with less hassle, The Living Food Kitchen might just be the fresh taste of health you are looking for!
Until next time fillies,
